Eberly Professors Named Benedum Distinguished Scholars

Each year, exceptional faculty members at West Virginia University are selected as Benedum Distinguished Scholars in recognition of the high caliber of their research and scholarly activity. The Benedum Distinguished Scholars awards, funded by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, are awarded to faculty engaged in “creative research” in as many as four categories: behavioral and social sciences, biosciences and health sciences, humanities and the arts, and physical sciences and technology.

Two of the four 2021-22 Benedum Distinguished Scholars teach at Eberly College. Christina L. Duncan, professor of psychology, was recognized as the Benedum Distinguished Scholar in Behavioral and Social Sciences for her significant contributions to the research in and practice of pediatric psychology. Jessica Hoover, associate professor of chemistry, was recognized as Benedum Distinguished Scholar in Physical Science and Technologies for her significant, nationally and internationally recognized discoveries in inorganic, organometallic and organic chemistry.

In 2020-21, all three Benedum Distinguished Scholars were Eberly College professors. Cari Carpenter , professor of English, received the Benedum Distinguished Scholar Award in the Humanities and the Arts. Lisa Holland , professor of analytical chemistry, was named a Benedum Distinguished Scholar in Physical Science and Technologies. Cheryl McNeil, professor of clinical child psychology, was named a Benedum Distinguished Scholar in Behavioral and Social Sciences.
